A new ten-minute video reveals publicly for the first time some of the secrets of spyware. Until now, vendors of spyware have presented this kind of information exclusively to potential customers – such as police departments and government agencies (and in some cases presumably anyone else willing to pay the price).
Motherboard, the online tech magazine, has obtained footage of a spyware salesman demonstrating the features of his product. While the hacking techniques showcased are by no means ground-breaking, the film does give an insight into how vendors of surveillance solutions go about selling their malware to international law enforcement bodies – and nicely demonstrates the individual steps of infecting a computer. Pass the popcorn.
