ATMs across Europe hit by cyber raidsLong gone are the days when crooks needed a JCB to ram-raid an ATM. Nowadays hackers can use malware to force cash machines to spit out their contents. For example, a hacker group named Cobalt launched a series of bold cyberattacks on ATMs across Europe over the course of several months, successfully withdrawing large sums in local currency in a number of countries, from Armenia to Spain and Kyrgyzstan to the UK.

Leading manufactures such as NCR and Diebold Nixdorf are working on proactive security strategies and solutions, but this form of ATM ‘jackpotting’ is growing in popularity amongst the cyber heist community – swiftly in and out across as many machines as possible.
