A third party vendor removed electronic security safeguards from a California based Health System server which exposed the data of 32,500 patients who had received treatment at Goleta Valley College Hospital, Santa Barbara. Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital in Solvang, and Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital were also affected between September 29th 2009 and December 2nd 2013.
Although the breach hadn’t been discovered immediately health officials do not believe that the data of its patients had been exposed in a way that put them under threat. None of the information had been accessed or used.
It is thought that the information of 32,500 patients was at risk. The server was removed without telling hospital officials.
The server contained names, dates of birth, addresses and some health information.
