International crime fighters and tech companies are uniting to fight the growing threat of ransomware.
The campaign, ingeniously dubbed No More Ransom, offers advice through an online portal, a reporting service and free decryption tools. In its first two months of operation over 2,500 people have used the service, resulting in an estimated $1m loss of revenue to the cybercriminals. Now that is a good loss.
Europol hopes that No More Ransom will help to counter the upsurge in ransomware and give victims the chance to reclaim control over their data without having to make payments to the criminals.
