Google Play store has fallen victim to malware. Security experts in Russia discovered a malware which would infect users’ devices with spyware, hidden in various Android apps on the Play store. A wide range of apps have been infected, and once installed on end devices they would be ready to collect personal data about the user.
If a user tries to unwittingly activate one of the infected apps, the hackers are alerted and then able to convince the user that there is something wrong with their device and they should download a repair app, which is – of course – also infected with malware. Google themselves have yet to issue a public statement to their users about the problem, so in the meantime, affected users can only do one thing – download an anti-virus app and remain wary.
