Railway crime has moved on since the days of Ronnie Biggs and Buster Edwards. Most recently, hackers have breached the accounts of passengers on Great Western Railway. Furthermore, the message sent out to affected customers by GWR caused further consternation – in case it was also a scam.
Admittedly a mere one thousand of GWR’s one million account holders have been compromised. The train company has been swift to contact the victims and also the Information Commissioner’s Office, and is now urging all of its customers to change their passwords as a precautionary measure. Apparently, some passengers didn’t even realise they had GWR accounts.
As with all similar breaches, this demonstrates the importance of good password etiquette.
