Large-scale DDoS attacks hit Saudi government sitesGovernment websites in Saudi Arabia have fallen victim to a distributed denial of service attack, responsibility for which has been claimed by the hacker group Anonymous through Twitter. Different government departments in the country have been targeted allegedly because of the recent execution of a leading Shia cleric, Sheikh al-Nimr. There may yet be more reprisals as Saudi Arabia has also taken the decision to behead and crucify the nephew of Sheikh al-Nimr, although no execution date has yet been set. This decision was made in September which also resulted in a cyber attack on Saudi government websites.
