Millions of personal account details from users of Tumblr and MySpace have recently appeared on the dark web for sale. This comes shortly after personal details of LinkedIn users were being sold online as well. In both cases, the data seems to be reasonably old, suggesting that the theft took place years ago. In fact, some are arguing that the data dumps having occurred within a similar time span suggests that the hacks may be linked somehow.
Personal details have consisted of log-names and passwords. Employees at website Motherboard have tested some of these and said they would appear to be authentic. As always with these types of data breaches, users who keep the same password for multiple accounts and platforms would be well advised to change these quickly.
