American hackers using a Minecraft server have sent a bomb hoax to more than 400 schools across Britain. The warnings, which arrived in emails written in both English and Arabic, claimed that the attackers had sent in a student carrying a bomb that would detonate unless the school paid a $5000 ransom.
The bomb was due to explode at 12.30pm, prompting parents all over the country to hastily collect their children from the school gates. Several police forces are liaising with counter terrorism officers to ascertain the perpetrators of the threat, which appears to have originated in the US.
VeltPvP, which makes the server for the sandbox video game, has experienced recent harassment from a hacking group – who may be the actors behind this hoax.
