St. Louis Cardinals accused of hacking rival teamAllegations have been made that the well-known US baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, has hacked into the computer systems of a rival club in order to access player data. With the hack now under investigation by the FBI, neither the Cardinals nor the Houston Astros, the rival club in question, were available for comment.

Trade discussions and proprietary statistics would be of great interest to rival clubs although this is reputedly the first time that such a cyberattack has occurred, certainly within the baseball world and probably within the sporting community at large.

A long-established and immensely popular team, the St. Louis Cardinals currently have the best record in baseball and are one of the most successful teams of all time, having won 11 World Series. Only the New York Yankees have won more.
