Why Apple is (mostly) safe from malwareNothing in this life is 100% safe – that old adage of nothing in life is certain but death and taxes does tend to hold true. Still, when it comes to malware, Apple products are about as safe as it gets – unlike their Microsoft equivalents. While there tends to be no real need for antivirus software on an iPhone or iPad there are, however, ways in which a determined hacker can still ruin your day.

This article on Zdnet.com helpfully outlines the ways in which Apple scores over its rivals on cybersecurity – interesting enough a topic on its own – and also flags up six vulnerabilities that allow a hacker to penetrate an macOS and iOS defences. These include developer releases that haven’t gone through the App store, persuading users to sideload ‘free’ Apps and jailbreaking devices. Three further unsafe practises are falling for phishing attacks, using insecure Wi-Fi and inadvertently installing fake antivirus.

There’s an obvious common theme here – human fallibility. So read up on these issues, make sure you are ‘cyber smart’ and continue to be a wary user of technology.
